‘Born in Tiruvarur confer Liberation’ (Aarooril Pirakka Mukthi), Tiruvarur is a District Head quarter situated in the middle of Tamil Nadu. Tiruvarur town revolves around the Thiagarajaswamy Temple. The temple is believed to be an inspiration for Rajarajachola to build the Brihadeeswarar temple, a UNESCO world Heritage site. Ancient sayings, – ‘KOVIL’ means “Chidambaram”, ‘PERIYA KOVIL’ means “Tiruvarur”. This temple town is home to Trinity of Carnatic music namely, Thiyagaraja, Muthuswamy Dikshitar and Shyama Shastri.
Old sayings, “Tiruvarur Ther Azhagu”, the annual Chariot festival is being celebrated in the Tamil month of Chitrai (April/May). This town has a history which extends back to several centuries.
